I joined Husch Blackwell's Houston office in February 2019.
There are many colleagues that I am grateful for at Husch Blackwell. However, I have to give special recognition to Kate David, Steve Carman, and John Cruciani for their leadership, friendship, and commitment to the firm.
We represented a Nigerian-based exploration and production company as a creditor in a bankruptcy case pending in Houston. Our client was sued in the bankruptcy case in which the Debtor sought damages of $2 billion purportedly arising from our client’s attachment of 380,000 barrels of oil stored in a vessel off the coast of Nigeria. Ownership to the oil was in dispute. We successfully obtained the dismissal of the complaint without prejudice based on jurisdictional grounds. In its nearly sixty-page ruling, the Bankruptcy Court concluded that the proper forum for the dispute was Nigeria. Not surprisingly, the Debtor never pursued the claims in Nigerian court, and we had a very happy client.
I plan on spending a lot of time working on physical fitness and conditioning. We also have plans to travel and spend more time with the family, including our granddaughters. Otherwise, I plan on waking up every morning and doing whatever I want as long as it does not involve billing time!
