Mark Arnold
Husch Blackwell mourns the passing of retired St. Louis senior counsel Mark Arnold on August 3, 2022. He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Kathryn Koch; sons James and Philip; one granddaughter; and numerous friends.
St. Louis Office Managing Partner Bob Tomaso issued this internal email about Mark:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the recent passing of our long-time colleague and good friend, Mark Arnold. Mark spent all of his 45-year legal career with Husch, and was proud of his profession, his law firm, and his peers.
“In fact, Mark delighted in helping his fellow lawyers with thorny procedural problems. He spent many nights and weekends researching arcane legal questions and often shared his findings with us — not to show off, but for the sole, and selfless, purpose of helping his colleagues.
“It would be almost impossible to chronicle Mark’s many achievements, but whenever bar associations and judges formed a committee on rules of procedure, Mark was usually appointed. Former Missouri Supreme Court Judge Richard Teitelman once even noted that Mark Arnold’s appellate practice “sets the gold standard” in St. Louis.
“Closer to home, we would all be very wealthy if we had a dime for each time one of our litigators said, in response to a question about a complicated procedural issue, “I don’t know. Ask Arnold.”
“While we were all rightfully amazed at Mark’s intellect, he was also always warm, friendly, loved to laugh, and could detect the scent of free food from several floors away.
“Mark graduated from Oberlin College in 1972 and joined Husch shortly after his graduation from Wash U Law School in 1977.”
